A wonderful customer of ours comes in and says… “What I Need” is to have this enormous solid authentic slab of Koa transformed in the perfect desk for me and my partner! 😅

To which we at VNTG responded: “You got it!”.

You guys might have seen some excerpts of it along the way through posts that we have made, as we took our time in the handcrafting towards perfecting a raw example of this rare, endangered and protected Native Hawaiian wood, transforming it into a work sanctuary for a great couple who will use it as their command center in their businesses and career for decades to come. 😍

Couldn’t have turned out better without the tasteful addition of that elegant tubular cantilevered Post Modern chair pair and the matching rose iMacs! 🖥️

We, at VNTG Never Can Say Goodbye!

The age old story of loving what we do, but sad seeing these gems go. 😢

In the end we are of course very happy that they are going to be loved and cherished at their new forever homes.

The NEXT BIG THING is coming!!!

At VNTG, we deal with the old, and then with the really old on a daily basis. Many times pieces have achieved iconic status, propitiating the original manufacturer to continue to make certain pieces to this very day, due to never ending demand… think Eames Lounge Chairs by Charles and Ray Eames, the Tulip Table by Eero Saarinen, the Wishbone Chair by Hans Wegner, the Barcelona Daybed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe the Egg Chair by Arne Jacobsen and so many other unmistakable designs.

At the same time there are pieces which despite being highly sought after, are either no longer produced (Think of the CADO System by Poul Cadovius) or are not produced in the way they used to be (Think the prohibition of the use of Brazilian Rosewood, or Walter Lamb pieces no longer being made in Bronze, or until recently Eames dining or side chairs not being made of fiber glass, etc…).

These are small examples of things that were made differently, specifically but aren’t any longer. Guess what, people still love them and use them each and everyday. And despite loving them very much, sometimes things go wrong and they can break.

We have seen that! We have experienced that ourselves! 😢

And many times we are left with nothing but sorrow and tears! But we at VNTG are changing that! NOW!!!

We are getting into the manufacturing business, and by that I mean that we are going to produce unique, hard to find and sometimes unobtainable elements to the furniture world.

We are doing it quickly, precisely and affordably. We are going to make WELL DAMN SURE that all your beloved treasures will be able to exist Ad Infinitum!

Ladies & Gentlemen, above are CAD drawings of that very first effort!

If you need something, anything, please let us at VNTG, and we will get it done.

Also, if you need highly detailed and complex Computer-Aided Design (CAD), please don’t hesitate to reach out, as we know a guy! 😜

This is an incredible piece that we have never seen anywhere before. Its modular, simple, and beautifully crafted design makes for a versatile piece that is both a statement and an easy-to-match element to incorporate into your home.

We would love to know more about its design origins, so if you have tips don’t hesitate to share! But we do know that it is a vintage piece in great vintage condition, and it has been here in the islands for decades. We have 17 of the open shelf pieces, 3 with drawers, and 1 with a door. Each one is approximately 24” wide x 14” tall.

To be invited into someone’s compound and to discover over 300 pieces at authentic vintage Walter Lamb pieces in a single property! 😱

We rarely do not know the maker and full provenance of all the pieces that come through VNTG, but this is one of those rare and beautiful exceptions x 2!

Yes! You heard that right… this is a twofer. 2 matching extremely elegant and stunningly proportioned, with well defining straight lines adorned by rounded edges pleasing to the touch.

Originally manufactured in Denmark in, we believe, the late 50’s / early 60’s, these were, simply put, elegant beds, which our awesome consignor expertly had upgraded to sofas with excellent custom upholstery, turning them into a chameleon of Midcentury Modern furnishings, easily converting back to beds when you have family or guests in town.

Taking Care of Business!!!

Wow! What a successful trip.

Between flying halfway, driving a Mille Miglia worth of miles, picking a ton of furniture, sightseeing incredible scenic places, seeing family, friends & much more, one of the highlights was definitely meeting incredible people (some for the first time), in many instances masters of their own domains & certified celebrities in this industry of ours where I concocted a term I use to refer to its members, Møbelieurs.

Well, one of those famous Møbelieurs, the Man, the Myth, the Legend himself is the incredible Aaron Moore, from @moores_refinishing

While Aaron & I have been now communicating for over a year, we never had the pleasure to meet in person & talk story, but it immediately felt like we were long time friends & we just clicked.

Besides Aaron’s hectic schedule, skyrocketing career & exponentially growing fame on social media & the furniture industry as a whole, he always calls or texts to check up on us despite the fact that we live in a tiny island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean 2,500 miles away, & that is even after some recent health scares in his lovely family.

This dude is AWESOME! He’s a genius too & humble. He gave me a comprehensive tour of his restoration shop & operation, his entire thought process (which you can totally learn / discover by yourself when you buy his superb published hardcopy book, itself being nothing short of an encyclopedia on restoration methods, techniques & best practices from start to finish) & approach to individual pieces & challenges, all eye opening & paradigm-shifting realizations instrumental in his success.

But the icing on the cake was probably two fold. First it was meeting his amazing sidekick, Ivan ( @ivan_astorga89 ), who is also the firm & steady hand behind the camera in all those great videos coming out of the Moore’s Restoration Factory, recording the Gold Standard of restoration.

Secondly was without a doubt the first hand demo with this new revolutionary tool coming to market in a few months that makes several elements of furniture restoration substantially quicker, easier, and cheaper, all the brainchild of @sottofurniture

I wasn’t alive when “The Spy Who Loved Me”, starring Roger Moore as James Bond (007) came out in 1977, but I remember being 4 years old and watching it for the first time and seeing the amazing Lotus Esprit S1 transform after a high speed helicopter chase into a fully functional submarine. 🏎️

While this is a masterpiece of vehicular design and engineering (can’t go wrong with a reliable, tested and true V-6 from a Toyota Camry), I think this customer will be requiring our delivery services. 😂
